At Seventeen

Janis Ian

 CDm
learned the truth at seventeen_ That love was meant for beauty queens
 G7C
and high school girls with clear skinned smiles who married young and then retired
 CDm
The valentines I never knew, the friday nights, charades of youth
 G7C
were spent on one more beautiful_ At seventeen I learned the truth

 EbDmG7
And those of us with ravaged faces, lacking in the social graces
 Cm7Fm7Cm7Fm7
Desp'ratly remained at home inventing lovers on the phone
 AbG7Cm7Fm7
Who called and say 'come dance with me' and murmured vague obscenities
 Dm7G7
It isn't all it seems at seventeen

 CDm
brown eyed girl in hand-me-downs, whose name I never could pronounce said
 G7C
'Pity, please, the ones who serve, they only get what they deserve.
 CDm
The rich relationed home-town queen marries into what she needs
 G7C
guarantee of company and haven for the elderly'

 EbDm7G7
Remember those who win the game, lose the love they sought to gain
 Cm7Fm7Cm7Fm7
In debentures of quality and dubious integrity_
 AbG7Cm7F7
Their small town eyes will gape at you in dull surprise when payment due
 Dm7G7
 exceeds accounts received at seventeen

 CDm
To those of us who know the pain of valentines that never came,
 G7C
and those whose name were never called when choosing side at basketball
 CDm
It was long ago and far away_ The world was younger than today
 G7C
and dreams were all they gave for free to ugly duckling girls like me

 EbDm7G7
We all play the game and when we dare to cheat ourselves at solitaire
 Cm7Fm7Cm7Fm7
Inventing lovers on the phone, repenting other lives unknown

that call and say 'Come dance with me', and murmur vague obscenities

The First Time I Ever

Roberta Flack

 -##
 Date: Fri, 3 Nov 1995 17:27:02 +0000 (GMT)
From: 'Rev. Linda Slug'
Subject: The first time ever I saw your face
On your guitar file you have a set of words and chords for the Ewan
MacColl song 'First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'. I only know the Roberta
Flack recording and although it's obviously the same song
the words and particularly the chords are completely different from what
you have written. Maybe MacColl used more than one tune.
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.
 DmGC
The first time ever I saw your face
 AmEmF
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
 C
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
 BbC
to the dark and the end of the skies
The first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand,
like a trembling heart of a captive bird,
that was there at my birth.
And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
and I knew our joy would fill the earth
and last till the end of time

This a Fantastic Song. I have listenend to this track repeatedly and I
feel that this is pretty close, I have limited knowledge of Chords, so
the Build-Up is no doubt using Chords, If so, please contact me and tell
me what they are.
